2014 Preview

Lower Half (106-145): The Bucs lost a couple of quality starters in Alphonse Muolo and Youvani Ruiz to graduation.  That will leave a lot of the leadership duties down low to senior James Cross (17 wins in 2013), one of the few upperclassmen in this group.  The good news is that there are very strong numbers in the room at these weights, so the competition at practice to crack the lineup should make the whole lot better.  And while it is a young group, sophomores Scott Helios, Javier Veliz, and Tom Hinz (from St. Rose) all have starter experience.

Upper Half (152-Hwt): Last year's group from 152-195, that combined for over 100 wins and included the program's all-time wins leader Dillion Stambaugh, were all lost to graduation.  Mason Gaetano is the lone senior here and the Bucs will need big things from him on and off the mat.  Junior Kenny Geiger is a returning starter who was wrestling up a couple weight classes a year ago, and should be poised for a nice year being down to 182. 

Outlook: While Red Bank did take a pretty heavy hit to graduation, there are very healthy numbers in the room.  With a lot of openings in the lineup,  sometimes teams have to resort to just filling in spots with warm bodies, but the Bucs' strong numbers will have guys working extra hard in the room to earn varsity time, as opposed to just being slotted in.  This is a very young team that should improve more and more as the season goes on, and with so many frosh and sophomores on the team, could be a squad to keep an eye on for the future.
