2021 Red Bank Wrestling
Seven regulars from last season's lineup, including a pair of District Medalists, were lost to graduation. As a result, this will be another team breaking in a lot of new faces into the lineup.
The most experienced portion of the lineup resides in the 120-132 area, where four starters return. Among them is junior, Phil Stolfa, who has medaled at the Districts in each of his first two seasons, and has put up 61 career wins during that time. He is back at the same weight (126) this season, and should be primed for a very big year. Junior, Ansel Bryan won 19 matches last season and is also entering his 3rd year as a starter, giving RBR a pair or experienced upperclassmen down low to help provide leadership. Also back down low are Michael Meehan, a 17-bout winner in 2020, and Gabe McGovern Jimenez, who were both in the starting lineup for the Bucs last year. There's some promising newcomers coming into the fold here, so there is potential for this to be a pretty good bunch.
There's not a whole lot of experience returning up top, so RBR will rely on senior Anthony Gaeta to provide some veteran leadership to what will be a group that will feature a lot of new starters. Gaeta, who is coming off a 25 win season, split time at heavyweight as a freshmen, but has been a full-timer in the varsity lineup ever since.
There will be plenty of new faces in the lineup, but it is a dedicated, hard-working group in the room. The schedule is tough, as in addition to the B-North opponents, there are also dates with the Middletowns, Ocean, Long Branch, and Raritan, so it should have the veterans looking for strong postseason runs prepared, while getting the newcomers some good competition as they build to the future.
